I have a freebie YHA prepaid international phone card, which I have no probable use for. Anyone want it?

So, I fly to Tasmania on Saturday, with a 2h45 stopover in Melbourne. I'm wondering if it's worth bothering attempting to dash into town and back, to meet up briefly with, well, anyone both able and inclined to meet me in the vicinity of Spencer St. station.

Arrived back day before yesterday, now no longer completely buggered though I'm still a fair way out of the right timezone.

Made it!

As far as Prague, anyway. Can't really say anything about it yet - I've seen one of the train stations, the hostel and some drab buildings in between. The (whichever river it is) valley which the train went along on the way from Dresden was beautiful, probably would have stopped off there for a night or two if I'd known.

Remainder of time in Leipzig interesting too. Bach concert (well, concert-cum-service, or something) at Tomaskirche most excellent.

Well, after 3 nights recovering myself in a nice little hotel up the Rhine, I finally made it to Leipzig, where accomodation appears to be extremely thin on the ground this week. Stayed 2 nights in a hostel, after which they were booked out. About to spend another two nights in a Pension out in the suburbs which proves to be.. interesting.. the owner is lovely, but speaks about as much English as I do German.

Was going to head to Prague day after tomorrow (Friday), but am now hoping to extend that - seems mad to miss the almost free concert on Saturday: a Bach cantata performed in the Tomaskirche, with the Thomanerchor and Leipzig Gewandhaus orchestra.

Actually managed to get all the current batch uploaded. More photos of Luxembourg as well as the new albums for Paris, Trier and the Rhine.

Now, off to catch a boat further up the Rhine.

.. is rather pretty. A semi-unexpected stop on my way towards the continent. The slowest bit of uploading most of the first batch of photos nearly done. I've been in this Internet cafe altogether too long. Crossing the channel tomorrow.

Hello from London. Random points

  • 20 hours is an awfully long time to be on a place; ~50 hours is an awfully long time to remain awake.

  • Some photos coming soonish, I hope.

  • European train and plane fare schemes are possibly even worse than mobile phone plans.

  • It really is a small world - it turns out one of the colleagues of the person I'm staying with here is the brother of someone I've corresponded with within IBM.

I hope it doesn't mean I'm entirely surrounded by bad actors and papier-maché monsters.
